ABOUT THE PROJECT:
he Open Door NY/NJ gives immigrants the tools they need to grow into strong, contributing members of society. Our beginnings showed that people given a chance to learn language and culture will respond enthusiastically.

To help our neighbors, we offer English classes, support groups designed to strengthen the family, and inspirational talks . Our efforts are to enable students to better communicate with their families and within their community. We are helping to connect, support, engage and encourage families. The program includes an asssembly time after class that discusses pertinent topics, such as community building, loneliness, and responding to witnessing crime (including domestic violence). There is also children’s program available which offers help with homework, arts and crafts, activities, and values based teaching and story time. We walk with immigrants throughout their journey, offering progressive classes and one-on-one guidance when possible, designed to help individuals learn, grow, and thrive.
